About the Association

The purpose of JARI is to support and advance the economic, political, social and cultural interests of Jamaicans living in Rhode Island.


JARI will accomplish its mission by operating a non-profit organization that will be used as the basis to link, bind, generate support and foster, as well as build a sense of community for the Jamaican residents of Rhode Island.


JARI members will participate in the life of the Jamaican community through activities such as support, networking, social and fundraising events, that promote the welfare of the Rhode Island Jamaican Community, and to facilitate communication/cooperation among and between the various segments of the Rhode Island Jamaican Community, elected officials, and community leaders in Rhode Island.

The following are the main initiatives to be executed by

Jamaica Association of Rhode Island:

Economic

To create work opportunities and partnerships with other organizations.


To organize informational series’ and seminars.


To equip entrepreneurs with the tools for success.

Political

To engage the political electorate in advocating for legislation to reduce racial profiling of minorities.


To increase business and educational opportunities and programs.



To promote and increase home ownership within the community.

Social

To engage members of the diaspora in networking opportunities to increase visibility of their business or profession.

To plan and execute fundraising activities to raise awareness of the organization.

To provide funds for varying activities, and create community with each other.

To organize an annual independence celebration, inclusive of traditional sporting activities.

Educational

To promote the importance of education by awarding need and merit-based scholarships.


To foster and encourage higher education in Rhode Island and Jamaica.


To provide mentorship programs by partnering with high schools and universities.


Cultural

To promote reggae music, food, and other cultural activities.


To promote the uniqueness of our culture.
